Although I’m a Canadian suspense author, that’s not all there is to me; I am also a mother. And one of my biggest fears was that something would happen to my daughter, especially when she was very young. This led me to ask myself what I would do if I were ever faced with a choice like Sadie, in DES NEBELS KINDER, has to make. She is told she can let a kidnapper take her son, or watch her boy die in front of her. How does a parent choose?

It’s a horrible dilemma, not easily answered. Do you let your son be abducted in hopes that someone will find him and bring him home? Or do you try to fight, knowing your actions may have just killed your son? I honestly can’t say what I would do. I would want to fight, but how could I take down an armed man holding my son? And how could I watch him leave with my child in his arms?

This is what I wanted to explore in DES NEBELS KINDER—that one horrifying question. And everything that happens later as a result of the choice Sadie makes. A choice that leads her back to drinking, that makes her doubt her own sanity.

DES NEBELS KINDER is a story about loss, guilt, survival and fate. It’s also a story about a mother’s love for her child, and with that love ANYTHING is possible.

So here’s my question for the mothers and fathers out there: If you were given 10 seconds to make this same choice, which would you choose? Would you let a kidnapper take your child, or watch your child die?
